This version of SecureInit™ corrects some more bugs ...
Now even if you change the name of your volumes & folders
SecureInit™ will work perfectly !!!
Unless absolutely necessary do not use the option "Into System" ... It works ... But as far as it has the only advantage to make it impossible to remove SecureInit™ from the system folder you should not have to use it.
If you check the "Verify applications" option, wich is a very good idea, you must re-run the SecureInit™ application each time you copy new applications to your protected volumes !
If you don't they will be disabled at next reboot because they are unknown to SecureInit™.
Attention !
----------
SecureInit™ in it's single-user version has a protection disabling all
of it's protections if you try to use more than one original copy on
the same AppleTalk network !!!
Philosophy of SecureInit™
------------------------
You must understand the philosophy of SecureInit which is not a virus
detector but principally will allow the users to 'Save' certain
disks/volumes configs which they will find as originally configured
when they reboot, even if someone else has used their Macs. It is also
a passive, AUTOMATIC, anti-virus protection utility which does 'refresh' selected
files, even the System itself, and disables polluted application by
changing their Icons, types and write a text file log into the System
folder to inform the user when and why the applications were disabled.
Main target markets for SecureInit™
--------------------------------
Scools, Universitys, Corporates, small businesses, etc... And home users.
SecureInit™ will save you a lot of time and of course a lot of money because it will maintain automatically any System operator's, Master's, Teacher's, etc... original configuration !!!
WARNINGS !!!
------------
Be careful by trying out different protection options ... If you don't
you may loose some of your valuable files !!!
Do never forget to look at the list of the different options !!!
Be especially careful with the "Kill System aliens" which erases all
undeclared files from the System folder and ... The "Purge if less
than" option ... Which if you reach the fixed minimum space will start
erasing the oldest non-declared files of your disks/volumes.
Important general notes :
-----------------------
SecureInit™ is not a virus detector but once installed on non-infected
volumes/disks it will offer you, AUTOMATIC, maximum protection against
almost everything like viruses, drivers polluted by System crashes,
etc..., etc... !!!
There is a date limiting the use of this version of SecureInit™ ... So
if you like it please register quickly !!! You will then, as soon as
it is available, receive a final 2.0 version for free !!!
(Version 1.8 will stop working by the end of September)
In the versions of SecureInit™, like this one, available to non-
registrated users the password protection feature is disabled !!!
************************************************
For absolute maximum protection you must do the following :
************************************************
FIRST OF ALL ...
If you want a full 'anti-virus' protection from SecureInit™ you have
to be sure your Mac is not infected before you install SecureInit™ ...
Do check this with VirusDetective™, Virex™, Virus RX or other programs
like these ... Then you have to launch the SecureInit™ application and
in the configuration window check all options except the "Close all
windows on startup" and "Purge if less than" which are optional !!!
For each option you must look at the list if available and then select
the appropriate files, disks/volumes, etc... !!!
For the "Refresh System files" option ... You MUST select the System,
Finder, MultiFinder, Print monitor, Backgrounder, DA Handler.
Also for the "Verify applications" option when in the list select ALL
the normally on-line volumes !!!
Note :
Please inform us on new Viruses you encounter and how they may affect
your Mac so we can modify SecureInit™ to faith against them !!!
Some useful hints :
-----------------
Do not check the 'Eject System disks' option if you use protected
software that requests a 'Key disk' !!!
If you check the 'Lock disk after use' option and for some reason you
trash the SecureInit™ INIT which is located in the System folder your
protected disks/volumes will be locked. To reverse this protection you
must launch the SecureInit™ application and check the 'Lock disk after
use' option ... Then click on 'Protect' and finally re-launch the
SecureInit™ application and click on the 'Unprotect' button.
